Malette Finishes First at Slippery Rock University

The Wayne State University Cross Country Women had a combined score of 119 points resulting in a third place finish at the Slippery Rock University Pre-National Cross Country Competition.

Rachelle Malette (Windsor, Ont./Holy Names), a senior, crossed the finish line first out of 287 competitors running a 21:35. Malette's time was 25 seconds faster than her previous performance at the Iona Meet of Champions.

Kristi Werner (East Jordan, Mich./East Jordan) and Lauren Kessler (Ionia, Mich./Ionia) accompanied Malette in the top 20. Werner ran a personal best of 22:56 finishing 12th while Kessler finished 20th running a 23:14.

Warriors Allison Wykle (Trenton, Mich/Trenton), Annie Magin (Richland, Mich./Gull Lake), Michele Barton (Sterling Heights, Mich./Stevenson) and Robin Coolsaet (Grosse Ile, Mich./Grosse Ile) also contributed to the teams third place finish. 

The WSU Women's Cross Country team will continue competition Friday October 10 at the Michigan Intercollegiate in Milford, Michigan.  The race time has not been scheduled.
