Malette Finishes Second at Iona Meet of Champions

Seven women of the Wayne State University Cross Country team competed at The Iona Meet of Champions in Bronx, New York.  Their combined score of 318 points resulted in an 11th place finish out of 32 teams. WSU, the loan GLIAC competitor finished 13 points behind the meet's host, Iona University.

Rachelle Malette (Windsor, Ont.) finished second with a time of 22:00 just six seconds behind Penn State’s Leah Rosenfeld. Malette's teammate, sophomore Lauren Kessler ran a 23:40 finishing 71st.

Kristi Werner (East Jordan, Mich.), Annie Magin (Richland, Mich.) and Allison Wykle (Trenton, Mich.) also contributed to the 11th place finish. Werner crossed the finish line 94th with a time of 24:21.  Magin placed 112th (24:42) while Wykle took 124th (25:08).  

Michele Barton (Sterling Heights, Mich.) and Robin Coolsaet (Grosse Ile, Mich.) rounded out your Warrior competitors.  Barton ran a 26:39 finishing 183st while Coolsaet finished 217th (29:53). 

The Warriors have a week off, but will continue competition Friday October 3, at the Paul Short Run in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.  The race is scheduled to begin at 2:50 p.m.
