DETROIT - Wayne State University junior Lauren Mallast (Chesterfield, Mich./Anchor Bay) leads all Division II women's volleyball players with a 1.52 blocks/set average, according to statistics compiled by the NCAA through Sept. 28.

Mallast has collected 22 block solos and 63 block assists for a total of 85 in 56 sets. Fellow GLIAC student-athlete Jen Jung of Michigan Tech is tied with Hawaii Hilo's Fabiane Seben for second at 1.36 blocks/set.

As a team, Wayne State ranks sixth nationally in blocking (2.60 B/S). The Warriors are also 56th in hitting percentage (.216), with senior Kim Gear (Benton Harbor, Mich./Watervliet) ranking 50th individually with a .332 hitting percentage.

Sophomore setter Katy Westenberg (Milford, Mich.) is averaging 10.07 assists/set, 35th-best in Division II volleyball.

Wayne State will face Saginaw Valley State on Friday at 7:00 p.m. and Lake Superior State on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. In addition to hosting a 90th Anniversary alumni event on Saturday, the Warriors will commemorate Breast Cancer Awareness Weekend by wearing pink jerseys and selling keychains benefiting the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure.
