DETROIT - Wayne State University head volleyball coach Phil Nickel announced the hiring of Jacqui Gatt as an assistant coach for the 2008 season.
"I'm really excited about Jacqui joining my staff. She is a bright young coach who is eager to learn," said Nickel. "She is well known in the high school volleyball community and will help us in all aspects of the program. She has been successful at all levels as a player, and I expect nothing less from her as a coach."
Gatt served the last three years on the coaching staff of her alma mater, Churchill High School. After graduating in 2004, she worked as an assistant varsity coach for one season before taking on the role of head junior varsity coach for two years.
A 2008 graduate of Madonna University with a B.A. in sport management, Gatt played four years on the Crusaders' volleyball squad. She was an NAIA All-American in 2007 while also earning region and conference Libero of the Year honors and finishing as the runner-up for the national award. Gatt was a three-time All-WHAC selection and a two-time all-region honoree. She also claimed a spot on the WHAC All-Freshman Team in 2004.
