The first game favored the Crusaders, 30-23, as Madonna recorded 18 kills to Wayne State's five.

Game two saw WSU fall behind, 15-5, but following a Wayne State timeout the Warriors took 20 of the next 28 points to take a 25-23 lead. Madonna regrouped with a timeout of its own, however, and took 10 of the next 16 points to clinch the game, 33-31.

Neither team held a lead of more than two points early on in the third game until Wayne State took an 11-8 lead and increased it to 12-8 before a Madonna timeout. The Crusaders evened the score at 15 before running away with a 30-23 win and the match.

Newcomer Miranda Robison (Coldwater, Mich.) led the Warriors with nine kills, while senior Michelle Bittner (Hamtramck, Mich./Regina) posted a team-high 14 digs. Redshirt senior Kristi Pieper (Roseville, Mich./Fraser) chipped in with 12 digs.
