DETROIT, Mich. - Head Coach Sheila Snyder picked up her 150th career victory as the Wayne State women's tennis team won its season opener with a 8-1 dual match win over visiting Saginaw Valley State University here at the WSU tennis Courts. With the win, WSU moves to 1-0 (1-0 GLIAC) while SVSU falls to 0-2 (0-2 GLIAC).

In singles play, WSU swept all six matches led by freshman Sharon Gill (Windsor, Ont./Academie Ste. Cecile) who picked up her first career dual match victory at the No.1 position with a 6-0, 6-0 win over SVSU's Danielle Coldren. Freshman Milena Vuksanovic (Pancevo, Serbia/Uros Predic Secondary School) also got her first colligate win in come-from-behind fashion over Cortney Heileman, 3-6, 6-4, 10-7 at the No. 2 spot.

Sophomore Megan Luzod (Royal Oak, mich./Dondero) notched a victory at the No. 3 spot dispatching Sarah Campian, 6-2, 6-3. Freshmen Jennifer Bradford (Detroit, Mich./Mumford) and Deby Correa (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Colegio Padre Eustaquio) defeated Jessica Stone 6-0, 6-3 and Kathleen Farah, 6-2, 6-0 at the No. 5 and No. 6 spots respectively to earn their first career colligate wins. Junior Sargam Bhatt (Canton, Mich.-Taylor Truman) also took out Jaymee Geneseo 6-1, 6-1, at the No. 6 position.

In doubles action, the Warriors took two of three matches with Gill/Vuksanovic defeating Coldren/Heileman, 8-6, at No. 1 while Correa/Bhatt edged Farah/Geneseo, 8-5, at the No. 3 slot.

The Warriors continue conference play with a 2 p.m. home dual match against Northwood Wednesday, Sept. 26.
