Orlando, Fla. - The Wayne State women's tennis team got back on track with a 6-3 non-conference win over Bentley. Freshmen Sharon Gill (Windsor, Ont./Academie Ste. Cecile) continued her impressive play with her third consecutive win at the No. 1 singles and doubles position.
WSU (8-8) went up 2-1 as Gill and freshman Milena Vuksanovic (Pancevo, Serbia/Uros Predic Secondary School) held off Kelly Fleszar and Kelly Nugent 8-5 while the freshman No. 3 team of Jennifer Bradford (Detroit, Mich./Mumford) and Deby Correa (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Colegio Padre Eustaquio) defeated Katherine Giambalvo and Rachel Harbert 8-3.
The Warriors put the match away in the singles competition taking 4-of-6 matches. Gill easily defeated Heather Haggerty in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0 while Vuksanovic won her first singles match of the spring season with a hard fought three set win over Fleszar, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, at the No. 2 position. Bradford and Correa sealed the win with straight set wins over Giambalvo 6-3, 6-1, and Rachel Harbert 6-3, 6-2 at the No. 5 & 6 spots respectively.
WSU takes on Indianapolis in a non-conference dual match on Monday, March 10.
