YPSILANTI, Mich. - The Wayne State University women's swimming and diving team finished in third place out of four teams at an invitational meet hosted by Calvin College in Eastern Michigan's Jones Natatorium.
Denison University won the meet with 613 points, followed by Calvin (549), Wayne State (504) and Olivet College (213).
The Warriors had five times eclipse the NCAA "B" qualifying standards, while diver Erika Barczak (Williamston, Mich.) will go to nationals for the fourth time in her career, qualifying with a second-place score of 260.55 in the three-meter competition and a first-place one-meter score of 253.27.
Ashley St. Andrew (Grand Rapids, Mich./Jenison) and Natalia Buso (Sao Paulo, Brazil) went one-two in the 1000 freestyle and made NCAA "B" cuts with respective times of 10:34.16 and 10:34.50. Catherine Leix (Flint, Mich./Southwestern) and St. Andrew (5:12.39) also took the top two spots in the 500 free, with Leix's time (5:10.77) coming in under the NCAA "B" standard.
Leix achieved another "B" cut in the 200 free, winning in a time of 1:56.66, as did Elaina Hogle (Kentwood, Mich./East Kentwood) in her 200 individual medley win (2:10.73). Hogle also won the 200 butterfly (2:06.41), besting her previous season-high and "A" cut.
Wayne State's foursome of Julie Danaher (Allen Park, Mich.), Haintso Rakouth (Saginaw, Mich./Heritage), Agata Zalewska (Swietochlowice, Poland), and Hogle came in second place in the 400 freestyle relay (3:40.80).
WSU will head to Lewis next Saturday, Nov. 17, for a dual meet starting at 11:00 a.m.
