Romeoville, Ill. - The Wayne State University softball team (40-16 overall), ranked 26th this week by the NFCA, was blanked 4-0 by SIU-Edwardsville (43-8) Friday afternoon in the second round of the 2007 NCAA Great Lakes Regional tournament being hosted by Lewis University.

The Warriors battled the fifth-ranked Cougars to a scoreless draw through the first four innings. On the second pitch in the top of the fifth, SIUE's Kaeleigh Rousey hit a home run over the left field fence.

The Cougars scored three more runs in the sixth on three hits and a WSU error.

Meanwhile, SIUE pitcher Kaitlin Colosimo retired 20 of the 24 Warrior batters she faced. Wayne State received two walks and two other batters reached on Cougar errors.

In action earlier in the day, Grand Valley sent Shepherd home with a 14-1 triumph over the WVIAC champions. In the other loser's bracket contest, Gannon blanked the host Lewis Flyers, 3-0.

The schedule for Saturday is as follows (times are all Eastern):

Wayne State vs. Gannon at 10 a.m.;

Grand Valley vs. Missouri-Rolla at 12:30 p.m.;

Ferris State vs. SIU-Edwardsville at 3 p.m.;

Winner of 10 a.m. game vs. Winner of 12:30 p.m. game.
