Kissimmee, Fla. - The Wayne State University softball team (8-6 overall) scored once in the bottom of the seventh snapping a 1-1 deadlock in a 2-1 victory over Philadelphia.
The Warriors took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third on doubles by Lauren Warkentien (East China, Mich./Marine City) and Amanda Van't Wout (Guelph, Ont./Guelph Collegiate V.I.).
WSU starting pitcher Nicole Abel (Kitchener, Ont./St. Mary's) tossed 5.2 innings with 10 strikeouts but allowed a run in the sixth on three singles before giving way to Molly Yetman (Cambridge, Ont./Glenview Park. S.S.), who earned the win in relief.
In the bottom of the seventh with two outs, junior Lindsey Perry (Taylor, Mich./Kennedy) doubled scoring Sarah Kish (St. Catharines, Ont./St. Francis S.S.) with the winning run.
Wayne State plays California (Pa.) in a doubleheader on Friday, and then single games on Saturday against Indiana (Pa.) and Eckerd College to conclude its spring break trip.
