Columbus, Ohio - The Wayne State University women's fencing team finished in 10th place with 39 victories at the 2008 NCAA Championship being held at The Ohio State University.

Freshman Karolina Budna earned First Team All-America honors by placing fourth in the sabre. She compiled a 19-4 record during the five-touch round-robin bouts to earn the No. 2 seed. She lost in the semifinals, 15-10, to eventual national champion Sarah Borrmann of Notre Dame. In the third-place bout, Budna fell 15-12 to Columbia's Emily Jacobson.

WSU sophomore Ann Bartoszewicz placed 21st in the sabre with five victories.

In the women's epee, senior Justyna Konczalska earned Second Team All-America accolades by placing seventh. She had a 15-8 mark in round-robin play and was +25 in touches.

The men's fencers will compete on Saturday and Sunday.

The team national champion is a combined effort between men and women.
