Women's Fencing Finishes Sixth At Conference Championship

Notre Dame, Ind. - The Wayne State University women's fencing team squad placed sixth out of 19 schools during the team day at the 2008 Midwest Fencing Conference championship hosted by the University of Notre Dame.

Ohio State won both the foil and sabre, and finished third in the epee to claim first place with 650 points. Notre Dame was second in both the foil and sabre, and was first in the epee to finish in second place with 650 points.

Northwestern was third (610), and was followed by Michigan (510), Chicago (475), Wayne State (465), Indiana (405), Michigan State (385), Wisconsin (385), Lawrence (295), Detroit (265), Purdue (260), Cleveland State (240), Xavier (225), Case Western Reserve (210), Illinois (205), Iowa (150), Oberlin (125) and Minnesota (100).

WSU's top placing was a third-place finish in the sabre. The Warriors were sixth in the epee and 12th in the foil.

Wayne State's next competition will be at the NCAA Midwest Regional on Sunday, March 2 at the University of Detroit.
