Women's Fencing Wins Six of Nine Duals At Notre Dame

Notre Dame, Ind. - The Wayne State University women's fencing team had a 6-3 record at the 2008 Notre Dame Duals held on Feb. 9 in South Bend.

The Warriors defeated Cleveland State (19-8), Detroit (19-8), Lawrence (19-8), Oberlin (26-1), Wisconsin (21-6) and Chicago (16-11), but lost to Florida (19-8), Notre Dame (21-6) and Northwestern (21-6).

In the women's epee, Justyna Konczalska compiled a 21-4 record to lead WSU. Emanuela Bercea had a 12-13 mark, while Sam Barc went 7-18.

Karolina Budna recorded a 21-2 mark in the sabre, while Ann Bartoszewicz had an 18-5 record. Anna Kotov won nine of her 23 bouts.

In the women's foil, Samantha Strassburg had a 10-13 record, while Rachel Broderick went 9-14. Kayleigh Stabler had a 3-20 mark.

WSU will participate in the Midwest Fencing Conference Championship at Notre Dame this Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 23-24.
