HILLSDALE, Mich. -- The Wayne State women's basketball team ended its season with a 76-59 loss to Hillsdale College in the GLIAC quarterfinals. Sophomore guard Chastidy Miller (White Lake/Waterford Kettering) scored 14 points on 4-for-9 shooting from the field and 6-for-6 from the foul line. Sophomore guard Joy Nash (Muskegon) scored 12 points and added four rebounds. Freshman guard Brooke Bowers (Delphos, Ohio/Jefferson) scored 11 and had four steals.
The Warriors fell behind 13-4 early on, but sophomore guard Jessica Howard (West Bloomfield/Oakland University) hit a lay-up to get Wayne State within 26-20 with 4:49 left in the first half. But Hillsdale went on a 12-2 run to close out the half to enter the break with a 38-22 lead.
In the second half, Nash scored four of Wayne State's first six points, as the Warriors stayed within 16 points. After Hillsdale increased its lead to as many as 22 points, Wayne slimmed the lead to 67-52 with 5:31 left on Nash's two foul shots.
The Warriors shot 35 percent from the field, compared to 47 for the Chargers. Wayne State struggled with turnovers, committing 26 for the game and missed all of its 14 3-point shots.
Wayne State finished the season 10-18. Hillsdale is 18-8 and advanced to Friday's semifinal game against Ferris State University at Gannon University in Erie, Pa.
WSU has not won at Hillsdale since the 1995 season.
