Erie, Pa. - The Wayne State University women's basketball team (12-9 overall, 8-6 GLIAC) moved into second place in the GLIAC South Division with a 70-67 road victory at Gannon University (13-10 overall, 7-7 GLIAC) Saturday afternoon.
The WSU triumph coupled with Ashland's setback at Saginaw Valley gives WSU a 1/2 game lead over the Eagles. The top two teams in each division host GLIAC quarterfinal contests on Saturday, March 1.
Junior Jasmine McCall (Detroit, Mich./CMA) scored a game-high 30 points including 20 in the first half as the Warriors built up a 37-33 lead at intermission.
Senior Monique George (Detroit, Mich./Cass Tech) added 11 points as WSU shot 52 percent (29-56) from the floor.
The Lady Knights made 27 of 65 field goal attempts for 42 percent.
Junior guard Joy Nash (Muskegon, Mich.) had seven assists and six rebounds to tie for team-high board honors with classmate Chastidy Miller (White Lake, Mich./Waterford Kettering).
The Warriors play at Tiffin in a non-conference affair on Thursday, before hosting Grand Valley on "Think Pink" day on Saturday at the Matthaei.
