Edwardsville, Ill. - The Wayne State University men's cross country team qualified for its fifth consecutive NCAA Championship meet by placing second, out of 22 schools, at the Great Lakes Regional championship meet on Saturday in Edwardsville, Ill.
The Warriors have finished in the top eight nationally three of the last four years and will have a chance to do so again on Saturday, Nov. 17 in Joplin, Mo.
Junior Abdullah Saleh (Dearborn, Mich./Fordson) and senior Kevin Christensen (Battle Creek, Mich./Pennfield) both earned All-Region honors by finishing in the top 15.
Saleh was sixth in a time of 31:53.43 for the 10k race, while Christensen was 11th in a time of 32:04.63.
Also contributing to WSU's runner-up team finish were sophomore Dan Kapadia (Canton, Mich./Salem), senior Dave Lucas (Dearborn, Mich./Detroit Catholic Central) and sophomore Sam Breen (Brownstown, Mich./Woodhaven).
Kapadia was 22nd (32:33.48), Lucas was 25th (32:36.40) while Breen was 26th (32:37.28).
Also competing for the Warriors were freshman Chris Tassen (Troy, Mich./Athens) and sophomore Vince Bechard (Dearborn, Mich./Divine Child).
Tassen was 64th (33:32.78) with Bechard placing 86th (34:19.29).
