COLUMBIA, Mo. - With the 2008 NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships underway, hosted by the University of Missouri S&T, the Wayne State men's team had one individual and one relay qualify to compete in Wednesday's finals.
Cauli Bedran (Rio de Janiero, Brazil) qualified for the finals in the 50 free, setting a school record with a 16th-place time of 20.79. He broke the previous mark of 21.10 which he and Tiago Oliveira set last season. Tim Giblin (Midland, Mich./Midland Dow) finished 33rd (21.31).
The 200 medley relay quartet of Bedran, Christer Tour (Farsta, Sweden), Alex Davidson (Napoleon, Mich./Jackson), and Giblin won the preliminary heat in 1:30.92.
A.J. Erard (Troy, Mich./Royal Oak Shrine) finished in 28th (1:55.62) in the 200 individual medley.
In addition to this morning's events, the pre-qualification diving events were held Tuesday night. Cayce Bolt (Sterling Hts., Mich./Warren Mott) placed 10th on the one-meter board and 11th on the three-meter.
Wednesday's final swims are slated to begin at 6:00 p.m. ET. Fans can follow the results from the Mizzou Aquatic Center live.
