ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - In its first GLIAC competition of the season, the Wayne State men's swimming team earned a 118-87 victory at Lewis University on Saturday afternoon.
The Warriors took first place in eight of the 11 events including both relays.
Wayne State opened the dual meet with a win in the 400 medley relay, as the foursome of Cauli Bedran (Rio de Janiero, Brazil), Per Bergstrom (Fagersta, Sweden), Sean Smith (Auburn, Mich./Bay City Western), and Tim Giblin (Midland, Mich./Dow) posted a time of 3:37.34.
Tiago Oliveira (Raul Soares, Brazil) won the 200 freestyle (1:44.29), and the trio of Bedran, Giblin, and Justin Shields (Chesterfield, Mich./Anchor Bay) swept the top three spots in the 50 freestyle.
A.J. Erard (Troy, Mich./Royal Oak Shrine) and Matt Carlson (Plymouth, Mich./Canton) went one-two in the 400 individual medley, as did Bergstrom (48.07) and Oliveira (49.26) in the 100 free, while Smith finished first in the 100 butterfly (52.27).
Bedran nabbed the top spot in the 100 backstroke (52.98), and the 400 free relay combination of Oliveira, Giblin, Sebastian Rzepa (Clinton Twp., Mich./Chippewa Valley), and Shields won in a time of 3:15.27.
Wayne State will now prepare for the Eastern Michigan Invitational beginning Nov. 30.
