COLUMBIA, Mo. - Christer Tour's (Farsta, Sweden) first-place finish in the 100 breaststroke highlighted Friday night's action at the NCAA Championships, where the Wayne State men's swimming and diving team is in sixth place with one day remaining.
Tour became Wayne State's first swimming individual national champion since 1941 and its first ever while in Division II. His time of 54.74 also surpassed the national and school records.
Both Sean Smith (Auburn, Mich./Bay City Western) and Cauli Bedran (Rio de Janiero, Brazil) came in under the school record in the 100 backstroke set by Bedran in the preliminary round (50.03). They finished .02 seconds apart in fifth (49.86) and sixth (49.88), respectively.
The national meet wraps up Saturday beginning with the preliminary swims at 10:30 a.m. ET.
