Six Warriors Named To CHA All-Academic Team

DETROIT - Six student-athletes from the 2007-08 Wayne State men's hockey team have been named to the College Hockey America All-Academic Team.

Senior Stavros Paskaris (Dearborn, Mich./Kewadin Indians) was one of 18 players in the conference named to the All-Academic Team for the third time. Junior Derek Punches (Manchester, Mich./Texas Tornado) earned his second selection, while senior Derek Bachynski (Belle River, Ont./Leamington Flyers) and sophomores Ryan Bernardi (Etobicoke, Ont./Milton Icehawks), Brett Bothwell (Red Deer, Alb./Yorkton Terriers), and Jeff Caister (Mississauga, Ont./Milton Icehawks) were recognized for the first time in their careers.

To earn placement on the CHA All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must have completed at least one year of residency at his present institution prior to the current academic year. The student-athlete must have a grade-point average of at least 3.00 (based on a 4.00 scale) for the previous two semesters or three quarters, or an overall GPA of at least 3.00 for all terms at his present institution. The student-athlete must be both academically and athletically eligible to compete during the present season.
