DETROIT - Wayne State University golf coach Mike Horn has announced the signing of two prospective student-athletes to National Letters of Intent to enroll at WSU in the fall of 2008. Hagan Risner (Garden City, Mich.) and Jafar Dada (Lapeer, Mich./Lapeer East) are slated to join the golf squad for the upcoming 2008-09 season.

A 2008 graduate of Garden City, Risner played four years on the Cougars varsity golf squad and earned all-league and all-conference honors each season while finishing in first place in the league three times. He posted a nine-hole average of 36.5 strokes as a senior, garnered 11 medals and team MVP honors, and served as team captain. Risner also played two years of varsity baseball and was a scholar athlete in both sports.

"Hagan has a world of potential and we expect a constant progression in his game," said Horn. "He is a great kid and should do very well with the Warriors. We are glad to have him as part of our team."

Dada, a 2008 graduate of Lapeer East, spent four years on the varsity golf team and was a two-time all-league and all-area honoree as well as a three-time team MVP. He improved his scoring average each season, finishing with a 37.1 nine-hole mark as a senior. He won the league tournament and advanced to the state tournament his junior year, while finishing in a tie for second in the league tournament in 2008. Dada was a four-sport athlete at Lapeer, also participating in basketball, tennis, and track.

"Jafar has an excellent short game and touch around the greens. That will be an asset that will serve him well in college," added Horn. "As his consistency and confidence increases, the sky is the limit. Again, we are thrilled to add him to our family."

The Warriors will begin the 2008-09 campaign Sept. 6-7 at Northern Michigan.
