DETROIT - Four members of the Wayne State University men's golf team received postseason awards from the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
Redshirt senior Ryan Johnson (New Boston, Mich./Huron) earned First Team All-GLIAC honors for the fourth time in his career. Senior Brett Hudson (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Orchard Lake St. Mary's) took Second Team accolades, while redshirt sophomore Joe Juszczyk (Dearborn Heights, Mich./Divine Child) and sophomore Bryan Lynch (White Lake, Mich./Lakeland) were Honorable Mention selections.
Johnson, a two-time GLIAC Men's Golf Athlete of the Year (2005 and 2007), posted a GLIAC scoring average of 72.7 this season, which takes into account a player's stroke average in his 10 best rounds in league play, including the GLIAC Tournament. He had an overall average of 74.33 during the 2007-08 campaign and finished in the top 10 in six events, including a victory in the first event of the season Sept. 8-9 at Northern Michigan.
Hudson averaged 73.2 in conference action this year and 75.47 overall. He was the medalist at WSU's Motor City Invitational last fall and finished third at the Findlay Invitational in April.
Juszczyk, who averaged 73.5 in GLIAC play and posted a team-best 73.83 score overall this season, caught fire in the spring for the Warriors, beginning with the Great Lakes Regional at Cherry Blossom in April at which he shot 69 both days to tie for first. He placed fourth at Ashland and second at the Great Lakes Regional at Purgatory, losing in a playoff. After becoming WSU's first-ever medalist in an NCAA Super Regional last week, Juszczyk is currently playing in the NCAA Championship in Houston, Texas.
Recording a league average of 74.1 this season, Lynch had five finishes of 12th or better in the fall, including a win Sept. 17 at Grand Valley State. He averaged 77.69 overall in 26 rounds.
