Wayne State University senior safety Dante Dunn (Lansing, Mich./Waverly) received two national player of the week honors from D2Football.com following WSU's 6-0 victory over Indianapolis last Saturday at Adams Field. He was selected co-Defensive Player of the Week with Merrimack's J.D. Wild, while also earning National Special Teams Player of the Week accolades.
Dunn had four key pass break-ups defensively plus a solo tackle:
On a third-and-eight from WSU 24 early in the second quarter, he made a solo tackle on a sideline pass for only a two-yard gain.
1) On a first-and-10 from the Indy 15 in the second period, he recorded his first pass break-up.
2) Indy had a third-and-12 from the WSU 30 on the first play of the fourth quarter and Dunn had a pass break-up in the end zone.
3) On Indy's next drive, Dunn separated the ball from Stephen Geller on what would have been a first down reception.
4) On Indy's next to last drive of the game, he broke up a pass on fourth-and-9 from midfield.
On special teams, Dunn blocked an Indianapolis punt that was recovered by freshman Nick Thomas for the game's only points. The blocked kick was the fifth of Dunn's career (fourth punt along with one field goal) and also marked the second time he blocked a punt that resulted in a Warrior touchdown (first was Oct. 29, 2005, in a 14-7 win over Gannon, also in the first quarter).
