Notre Dame, Ind. - The Wayne State University men's fencing team placed 14th out of 19 schools during the team day at the 2008 Midwest Fencing Conference championship hosted by the University of Notre Dame.
Ohio State won all three weapon championships to claim first place with 675 points. Notre Dame was second in both the epee and sabre, and third in the foil to finish in second place with 620 points.
Cleveland State was third (530), and was followed by Northwestern (465), Indiana (455), Michigan (455), Case Western Reserve (450), Lawrence (430), Michigan State (395), Wisconsin (385), Chicago (380), Purdue (320), Detroit (305), Wayne State (270), Illinois (250), Oberlin (180), Minnesota (120), Xavier (95) and Iowa (40).
WSU's top finish was in the sabre finishing ninth.
Wayne State's next competition will be at the NCAA Midwest Regional on Sunday, March 2 at the University of Detroit.
