Notre Dame, Ind. - The Wayne State University men's fencing squad compiled a 2-7 team record at the 2008 Notre Dame Duals held on Feb. 10 in South Bend.
The Warriors defeated Detroit (15-11) and Oberlin (16-11) but lost to Lawrence (16-9), Notre Dame (24-3), Chicago (19-8), Northwestern (21-6), Wisconsin (18-9), Florida (19-8) and Cleveland State (16-11).
In the men's epee, defending national champion Slava Zingerman compiled a 7-1 record in limited action. Joe Fresard won nine matches, while WSU had to forfeit a total of 42 bouts since it had only two competitors at most in each dual.
Jakub Gibczynski recorded a 23-2 mark in the sabre, while Andrew Opalewski went 9-16. Patrick Tomlinson had a 7-18 record.
In the men's foil, Michal Brichacek compiled a 9-16 record, while Brandon Isaac went 7-18. Robert Stanzler lost all 25 bouts.
WSU will participate in the Midwest Fencing Conference Championship at Notre Dame this Saturday and Sunday.
