GAMES 25-26 STORYLINES

The Wayne State University men's basketball team will conclude its 2007-08 campaign this week with a pair of GLIAC contests. The Warriors travel to Ashland for a 7:30 p.m. tip on Thursday before hosting Hillsdale on Senior Day and Athletic Hall of Fame Day on Saturday.

WSU will try to end its longest losing streak since the 1975-76 team had 11 straight setbacks.

The 1962-63 squad lost its final 12 games plus the first four games the next season.

In last Wednesday's setback at 28th-ranked California (Pa.), the Warriors got back-to-back three pointers from Lendyn Davis and Larry Edwards to take a 32-25 advantage forcing CUP to take a 30-second timeout.

Cal came out of the timeout with four quick points before another Edwards jumper gave the Warriors a 34-29 lead heading into the locker room.

Bryan Smothers led WSU with 12 points.

Early foul trouble plagued WSU in the second half.

CUP outscored WSU 18-6 over the first 10 minutes with seven points coming from the charity stripe to take a 47-40 lead. The Vulcans extended their lead to 54-45.

WSU went on a quick 4-0 run to cut into the lead at 54-49 with 5:41 left in regulation. However, that would be as close as the Warriors would get.

WSU's only lead of Saturday's game vs. #2-Grand Valley was at 3-2 following a triple by Davis 90 seconds into the game.

A lay-up by Jason Saddler after an offensive rebound pulled the Warriors within two at 7-5, but WSU would go the next 7:30 without making a field goal as GVSU built a 19-8 advantage.

A trio of WSU players scored 10 points including Tim Giles, who surpassed his previous high of eight set at Hillsdale on Feb. 2. Also scoring in double figures were Smothers and Davis.
