University Center, Mich. - The Wayne State University men's basketball team (7-2 overall, 2-1 GLIAC) lost its first league game of the season, 58-55, at Saginaw Valley (4-4 overall, 1-3 GLIAC) Saturday evening.

The Warriors led 50-47 on a jumper by Jeremy Lathan with 2:18 remaining but SVSU's Mike Zuiderveen made two free throws to pull the hosts within one.

Following a WSU turnover, Cardinal Lawrence Ross tipped in a missed triple try by Mario Mackey giving Saginaw the lead 51-50 with 73 seconds left.

Another Warrior miscue led to an offensive tip-in by Zuiderveen with 55 seconds remaining.

Lendyn Davis (Lansing, Mich./Sexton) made a lay-up with 29 seconds left to get WSU within one at 53-52. Ross made two free throws as the Warriors were whistled for six consecutive fouls in the final 6:40.

Jeremy Lathan (Portland, Ore.) hit a triple with 9.8 seconds left to knot the game at 55.

Ross made a lay-up with four seconds left to put SVSU ahead 57-55. WSU's inbounds pass went out of bounds near midcourt, and Mackey made one of two free throws giving life to the Warriors, but Lathan's off-balance triple try with two guys on him hit the rim and bounced away.

WSU will be idle for nearly two weeks with the next game taking place on Friday, Dec. 28 against Wisconsin-Parkside in the University of Findlay tournament.
