TIFFIN, Ohio - The Wayne State University baseball team (15-10) earned a 3-0 shutout victory at Tiffin University (10-12) in the first game of a doubleheader Wednesday afternoon.
Justin Mazur (Macomb, Mich./De La Salle) scattered seven hits over six scoreless innings to improve to 4-0 on the year, and Adam Kaminski (Clinton Twp., Mich./Mt. Clemens) held the Dragons at bay for his second save.
The Warriors had just three hits, with Ryan LaPensee (LaSalle, Ont./St. Thomas of Villanova) claiming two of those to go along with a pair of runs batted in. Matthew Williams (Detroit, Mich./Royal Oak Shrine) went 1-for-3 with a run scored.
Kaminski drove in the first run of the game with a sacrifice fly in the first inning, as the Warriors capitalized on three Tiffin errors.
Another error by the Dragons aided WSU in taking a 2-0 lead in the second inning, and an RBI single by LaPensee in the seventh provided an insurance run.
Mazur did not walk a batter while striking out a career-high six.
NOTES
Wayne State has shut out Tiffin three times in its history ... LaPensee extended his hitting streak to eight games ... he also has eight multiple-RBI games ... Williams, who swiped second base in the first inning, has five steals in the last three games.
