DETROIT, Mich. - The Wayne State baseball team (18-10, 7-3 GLIAC) swept Friday's doubleheader against the University of Findlay (16-13, 8-4 GLIAC) with a 4-1 victory in the second game.
The Warriors scored a run in each of the first three innings to take a 3-0 lead.
An RBI single by Tony Hines (Detroit, Mich./Mumford), extending his hitting streak to a team-high 10 games, put the Warriors on the board in the first. After Jon Weisman (Woodhaven, Mich.) tripled to right center, Ryan LaPensee's (LaSalle, Ont./St. Thomas of Villanova) RBI groundout made it a 2-0 game in the second.
Brett Witczak's (Hudsonville, Mich.) sacrifice fly in the third brought home Caleb Dalman (Hudsonville, Mich.), who led off the inning with a double down the left field line.
WSU starter Dan Barnes (Grand Ledge, Mich.) held Findlay scoreless until the sixth, when a WSU fielding error and two straight base hits produced the lone Oiler run.
In the bottom of the frame, after Hines doubled and advanced to third on a wild pitch, Derek Ranck (Clarkston, Mich.) plated him on a bunt single for an insurance run.
Barnes (4-2) lasted 6.1 innings and scattered six hits for the win. Kevin Kadrofske (Roseville, Mich./Lutheran East) struck out the final two Findlay batters for his first career save.
The Warriors and Oilers will meet again tomorrow in a twinbill starting at 1:00 p.m.
